Roughly a century ago, the world witnessed the sudden appearance of thousands of Goliaths—massive, towering beings whose origins remain shrouded in mystery. No one truly knows where they came from, only that they seemed to emerge overnight.
In the Rocklands, northeast of the Eastern Mountain Range, lies a strange and isolated commune known as New Fat—a settlement entirely populated by Goliaths who worship an obscure deity known as the God of Fat. The people of New Fat are devout in their faith, holding extravagant feasts of meat and grain to honor the divine virtues of gluttony, joy, and abundance. REDACTED
Naturally, anthropologists have been captivated by these people. The Goliaths of New Fat share an unusual oral history: when asked where they came from, they claim to have dug their way to the surface from deep underground, escaping a cataclysmic event they call “Gruktha Mandor”—translated in the Common tongue as “the Wave of Death.”
According to their tales, they originated from lands far to the south, well beyond the edge of any known map. They say their ancestors dug for generations through the earth to reach safety, passing down the task from parent to child, fueled by desperation and divine guidance.
The problem? Scholars find their story utterly implausible.
Even for beings as strong as Goliaths, the idea of digging through unknown terrain for what would be twice the distance of the known world, all without access to consistent food or water, strains the limits of possibility. There are no known tunnel systems, no geological evidence, and no surviving maps to support such a feat.
A more widely accepted theory is that the Goliaths arrived by sea, possibly through the remote port of Faywharf, and settled in the barren, overlooked lands of the Rocklands. This would explain their sudden appearance and isolation, as well as their strange customs—rooted in a culture far removed from the rest of Druecia.
Still, the consistency of the Goliaths’ oral traditions is remarkable. Every elder and child in New Fat tells the same story, with the same names, the same warnings, and the same reverence for the God of Fat.
Whether truth, myth, or something in between, the Goliaths of New Fat remain one of the most enigmatic peoples in the realm.
