The Pitborn Clan is one of the three major orc tribes in southern Nyvara, but their power has waned over the years. Once a dominant force, the Pitborn now struggle to survive in the harsh, barren lands they call home. With the region becoming increasingly inhospitable, the Pitborn have found it difficult to compete with the ForgeClaw and Stonefang clans, who thrive in more resource-rich areas.
The Pitborns are an intensely religious people, bound by a singular, sacred belief: their pit. The pit is more than just a place to them — it is their god, their source of life, and their means of rebirth. Every orc born into the Pitborn clan is said to have been birthed from the pit, though the exact truth of this claim remains uncertain. Anthropologists from Druecia have observed that pregnant orcs are taken into the pit to give birth, but they have never been allowed to witness what occurs there.
The Pitborns believe that when an orc dies, their spirit is absorbed by the pit and reincarnated into a new body, creating a never-ending cycle of life. For the Pitborn, this cycle is their core belief: the pit provides them with knowledge, skills, and strength, and in return, they offer their lives back to it. When an orc reaches old age, they journey to the pit, where they sacrifice themselves, ensuring the continuation of future generations.
However, in recent years, the Pitborns have faced a troubling crisis. Their population has begun to shrink at an alarming rate. The once-bountiful pit that gave them life seems to be failing. The Pitborn believe that some evil force is corrupting the pit, preventing new births. This belief has fueled a sense of desperation among the clan.
Observers from Druecia, however, offer a more mundane explanation: the Pitborns are simply running out of resources in their impoverished lands, and their once-prosperous society is collapsing under the weight of scarcity.
In a desperate attempt to save their future, special Pitborn orc squads have been dispatched to investigate the mysterious force that is hindering the pit’s power. Some believe this is a supernatural crisis; others suspect it is a sign of the clan’s slow extinction.
