Qino is a fortified stronghold in southern Nyvara, renowned for its surprising prosperity despite being surrounded by harsh, barren lands. Its success stands as a testament to the unique cooperation between two unlikely peoples: the Githzerai and the Leonin.
Long ago, the region was home to these two groups—the Githzerai, a wise and contemplative offshoot of the more warlike Githyanki, and the Leonin, noble lion-like warriors known for their courage and strength. Rather than clashing, the two found mutual respect in each other’s differences. The Leonin provided muscle, protection, and labor, while the Githzerai contributed intellect, political structure, and ambition.
Through a shared vision, they founded Qino—a city built on balance and cooperation. Leadership was established as a council made up of elected representatives from both peoples, serving until death or resignation. The Leonin formed the military and worked as the backbone of the city’s labor force, while the Githzerai led advancements in science, invention, and politics.
In modern times, Qino is one of the only major cities in Nyvara that openly allows settlers from Druecia, drawing a steady stream of immigrants. While this influx has boosted trade and brought new ideas, it has also increased tensions within the council.
Many Leonin now feel disenfranchised, noting that the Githzerai’s much longer lifespans allow them to dominate council positions for generations. Once a balanced council, only one Leonin remains among its ranks. Though he assures his people that all is fair and just, discontent brews among younger Leonin who believe their strength and sacrifices are undervalued while the Githzerai sit safely behind walls of politics.
Despite internal tensions, the people of Qino are united in concern over a mysterious threat emerging from the east. Strange dark storms have begun to gather over the coastline, and numerous ships have vanished without a trace. Explorers sent to investigate have all failed to return, leaving the city anxious and watchful. Rumors spread of a rising darkness—one that could test the strength of Qino’s unity like never before.
