The Kingdom of Honos stands on the edge of despair. In but three weeks, a single strange affliction has grown into a sweeping calamity. Now called the Black Scourge, this disease grips nearly a third of the kingdom’s people, its symptoms spreading with terrifying speed, yet curiously never crossing the kingdom’s borders.
Whispers among scholars and priests speak of darker origins. Many believe the plague is no natural illness at all, but the foul echo of a curse, its roots buried deep in the Ashen Maw and the haunted reaches of the Underdark. If true, then no mere remedies will suffice, the cure must be wrested from the curse itself.
In desperation, the King of Honos has issued a plea to all who practice the healing arts. Physicians, alchemists, and herbalists alike are called to the capital. There, under royal patronage, they must uncover the truth of the Scourge, devise a cure, and, if fate demands it, confront the curse at its source.
Those who succeed will not only save a kingdom from ruin but will earn honors and riches beyond measure. Yet the task is dire: fail, and the Black Scourge may consume Honos entirely.
