Dephena, a proud kingdom ruled by centaurs, once stood as a loyal ally to the human forces during the war against Neathshara and the rise of uncontrolled magic. But peace has brought no reward. Now absorbed into the Druecian Empire, Dephena finds itself surrounded by kingdoms dominated by humans—many of whom openly harbor hostility toward non-human peoples.
The centaur leaders are growing increasingly fearful.
Autumngrove, the Empire’s capital, has established Fort Stormwell just outside Dephena’s borders. Under the guise of protecting the region, the fort now controls all trade entering and leaving the city. Supplies have quietly dwindled—Dephena receives fewer resources and shipments than other kingdoms under the Empire’s banner.
Yet, they dare not speak out.
Any sign of resistance could be painted as rebellion. Dephena is isolated and vulnerable. Its position within the empire offers little room to maneuver, and the centaurs lack allies strong enough—or close enough—to come to their aid.
Despair has begun to spread.
More and more centaurs are abandoning their homeland, fleeing westward to Nyvara in hopes of finding sanctuary. Others have tried reaching out to the human kingdoms to build diplomatic bridges, but their efforts have been met with blatant racism. Many humans view centaurs as “half-breeds,” mocking them cruelly—joking that they should cut themselves in half and live among halflings.
The situation in Dephena is dire. One wrong move could provide the empire with the justification it needs to launch a full-scale occupation. The centaurs now live under the shadow of fear—trapped in their homeland, watching it slip away one quiet injustice at a time.
